Chair of Governors Statement

Welcome to the Governors page on our school website.

Below you will find a brief outline of our role and details of the Governors appointed to the Godinton Primary School Governing Body. We work actively as a team to ensure the smooth running and future successes of the school and take pride in the schools achievements.

The school has a strong leadership team supported by good quality and dedicated staff and we are fortunate to have supportive parents all of which helps us to fulfil our role as Governors. We have a ‘Good’ school (as rated in our last Ofsted report) and a strong ethos thanks to the support of all the adults associated with the school and, of course, the children who help make the school what it is.

If you would like to raise any issues or concerns or would like to ask any questions, I am happy to help. Please feel free to write to me via the school office or email me directly at chair@godinton.kent.sch.uk and I will get back to you.

Steve King
Chair of Governors

The role of our Governing Body

The Governing Body at Godinton Primary School is made up of volunteers who work in partnership with our headteacher to ensure that children receive the best education possible. Governors help to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential and they support our ethos of wanting to provide our children with a fully rounded education, which sees them happy and confident, and which provides them with the opportunity to succeed wherever their strengths and skills may lie.

Responsibilities

The headteacher of the school is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. The role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management, and to act as a “critical friend”, supporting the work of the headteacher and other staff.

The school has a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance and equipment; the Governing Body is responsible for managing this budget. They can decide how many and what types of staff to employ, which equipment to upgrade or replace and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives. The headteacher is accountable to the governing body.

Governors have a very important role to play and are pivotal in directing schools and accounting for their performance. We are extremely lucky at Godinton to have a hard-working and committed Governing Body, led by a very passionate Chair of Governors.

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to all members of our Governing Body for helping to make this the best school that it can be.
